What’s that? You want to hear what I think? Now, this is a surprise. Okay, but this isn’t going to be about SEO or digital advertising… well, okay maybe a little bit about those things. So, what the hey, here are 5 things I am stoked for in 2020!

Cody’s 5 Exciting Things in 2020

My Impending Marriage

Oh that’s right, over the winter break I asked my best gal Janna to be my wife. We’ve been together for a few years now, bought a home, have way too many pets (don’t tell her I said that!) and we’re best friends — so why not make this whole thing for life? We’re planning for a nice autumn ceremony at our home. I first met Janna at the rehearsal dinner for her sister and brother-in-laws (my friends’) wedding and it clicked! There’s the girl. Well, for me at least. It took her another 2 years to realize what a catch I am. Five years later and we’ll be saying “I do.” Dang. Putting it down like this puts a whole new pep in my step. I love her, and I’m excited to say “my wife.”[caption id="attachment_8620" align="aligncenter" width="1024"]

Here's us in front of the Millenium Falcon![/caption]

Denis Villeneuve's Dune

Anyone who has spent time in our office knows how big of dorks we are. Well, after the rather… disappointing conclusion to the Skywalker Saga my sights are set firmly ahead as the Sicario director takes us to the planet is Arrakis, also known as Dune. Featuring Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson as his mother the Lady Jessica, Oscar Isaac as the Duke, Josh Brolin as the baliset loving Gurney, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem — man the list goes on! I cannot wait to see the movie adaptation that Herbert’s book has always deserved. AND it’s just the first of two movies?! Get outta here! If you haven’t already, go watch Blade Runner 2049. It’s actual art.

Starting a New D&D Campaign

I’m a bit of an RPG fiend and at this point am running my longest ongoing campaign ever! It’s been over three years of fighting mind flayers, stopping the Dragon Queen Tiamat, time travel, and more. It’s been a lot of fun, my players are fast reaching the epic tier and soon it’ll be time to start back at the beginning with fresh new characters on a brand new adventure — maybe even in a brand new world! It’s the kind of thing that fires up my curiosity and creativity and I can’t wait to start spending our weekly game on a whole new adventure, telling a new story together.

Planting Squash!

I dunno about your office but here at Helix we are obsessed with the Bon Appetit channel on YouTube. We watch every episode of It’s Alive and Gourmet Makes, we take quizzes to identify which of the BA staffers we are (I’m a Brad, obviously), and we take their insights into our own cooking disasters (Nate has much more success than I do here.) This last November they set out to Make the Perfect Thanksgiving Meal during which they met up with the fine folks at Row 7 Seeds and found a new squash to serve up: the 898 Squash.“Bred to reimagine the workaday butternut, the 898 packs concentrated sweetness, flavor and beta-carotene into a single-serving squash.” I bought 50 seeds and I’m excited to try and bring these to the table. Arizona has two good seasons to grow squash so we’ll see how it goes! I don’t even like squash but the lady does, so you can see why she’s marrying me.

Getting Closer to Marketing Mastery

You know how Malcolm Gladwell says it’s 10,000 hours to mastery? That whole thing? Well I’ve been with Helix House since August 2016, and full time for about 3 years. If each year has 2,080 work hours then I’m getting close to hitting my 10,000 hours in marketing and content writing. That’s pretty damn exciting. By the end of 2020 I will be sitting at roughly 9,000 hours working with Helix House. I’ll be on the doorstep of Mastery! Of course, marketing and new media never sit stagnant, so the concept of mastery is almost impossible, but it’ll feel good to have been working at the craft for this long. Also, as if it wasn’t obvious, math isn’t my strong suit. Hope this helps Nate! I don’t know that anybody wants to read what I'm interested in but there it is. Maybe you should ask some of the other folks to put together lists.
