Digital Advertising Goals You Should Make This Year
Everyone has goals, and the same should be said for your business. Whether your goal is to make more sales, bring in new customers, or launch your startup, here are a few other goals you should consider making as well, straight from the mouth of digital advertisers!
Get Ranked Higher on Google
If you want to get more customers, then you should invest a little time in getting your website ranked higher on Google. There are a few ways to do this, which we’ll go over here.
Revamp Your Website’s SEO
Google loves websites that it can easily identify the purpose of. What we mean by that is that Google loves well-formatted and organized SEO efforts. The better your SEO, the more likely your website will appear on Google’s first page when you’re searching for relevant keywords. Let’s back up for a second. SEO? Keywords? If you’ve never heard of those before, don’t worry! SEO is search engine optimization and it is basically the magic spell that marketing teams cast to get your website ranked higher in a Google Search. Keywords are the components of that spell. They’re the relevant words and phrases that help Google identify what your website is trying to sell, promote, do, etc. For example, some keywords for a Budget Blinds franchise would be:
- Shutters
- Drapes
- Blinds
- Roller Shades
To get started with your SEO, you’ll need to do some keyword research. If you’ve already implemented some SEO to your website, check what keywords you’re targeting and open an incognito tab on Google. Search those keywords. Are you on the first or second page? If not, it’s time to refresh your efforts! We recommend editing the copy on your website or changing the keyword entirely if it’s not a good fit. Don’t worry, we have a guide for that here.
Update Your Blog Regularly
Google loves active websites and sites that rank for more keywords. Your blog is the answer to that. Not only will it help you reap the rewards of SEO, but it will also establish credibility and trust with your audience. Writing two blogs a month is a good place to start. Google has a very specific algorithm for blogs, and we’ve found that it likes the following formula:
- 750+ words
- Headings to separate the text
- Keywords in the headings
- Keywords appear at least three times in the content
- Images with keywords in the alt text
- Keywords in the URL, title, and meta description
Check Your Website’s Speed, Images, and Links
A slow website is a website that doesn’t convert. Customers aren’t likely to wait for your website to load, especially if it takes longer than 3 seconds. Google notices this too and will rank your website appropriately. You should also check your images on your website and blog to ensure none of them are broken, and that all of your internal links are working and not leading to 404s.
Want Your Google Ads to Do Better? Improve Their Quality Scores!
Every Google ad comes with a Quality Score. This score is a tool that tells you how well your ad quality is compared to others in your industry. It is ranked from 1-10, with 10 being the highest quality. Basically, your Quality Score is your metric to know if your ad and the connected landing page (or website) are relevant and useful to someone who is searching on Google for a specific keyword. For example, let’s say someone is looking up “custom window blinds” and you’re a locally owned window blind company. Your ad may read something like this: “Get custom window blinds at a price you’ll love.” The landing page it is attached to, however, might be for window shutters, not window blinds. This will bring down your quality score, thus affecting how your ad performs. So how does your Quality Score affect your ads? By optimizing your Quality Scores, you’ll be setting yourself up for higher, lower cost per clicks, and lower cost per conversions!
Update Your Social Media
If you want to post more in 2022, then you totally should do it. Social media helps you reach a broader audience — for free — and it helps build that audience into repeat customers who love your brand. On top of that, it helps humanize your business! Think of Wendy's Twitter. Everyone knows it for their snarky replies, not because they’re a big brand. Your social media should aspire to do the same — humanize your business. Social media is also a fantastic way to share photos, case studies, reviews, and testimonials! You’re doing a good job and there is nothing wrong with wanting your audience to see that too. In fact, you should blast that to the world, because the happier your existing customers are, the more likely new customers will walk through your door. Which leads us to…
Get More Reviews
You need reviews to grow. There are no ifs, ands, or buts about it; reviews directly affect whether or not someone will buy from you. Bright Local's 2017 Local Consumer Review Survey found that 93% of consumers read local reviews to make a shopping decision. On top of that, the 2018 Review Trackers Online Reviews Survey found that negative reviews convinced 94% of consumers surveyed to avoid a particular business. So it’s time to start asking (but never be pushy about) getting more positive reviews from your existing audience base. These reviews can be posted anywhere, but the big sites are:
- BBB.org
- Yelp
- TripAdvisor
On top of getting more business, Google tends to favor companies with more positive reviews as well. For example, a business with 63 5-star reviews will likely show up further down the Google Maps page or a Google My Business listing than a business with 467 total reviews with a 4.8 star average. So if you want more new customers, reviews are the way to go! Finally, if you’re overwhelmed and unsure on where to begin, or if you’d tried all of this on your own but nothing stuck, it’s time to call Helix House.
