Helix House’s 5 Cool Things September 21st Edition

The 5 Cool Things blog has been an ongoing experiment over here at Helix House with each one being the work of a single author, diving deep into the things that they love – or at the very least find cool. This time around I, your humble narrator, lit the beacons of Gondor to call for aid and I wasn’t let down!Why is it called September 21st Edition? Read on to find out!

Training for a 5k

Vianka Villa is back in training mode! She’s building up her endurance to tackle more runs.“One cool thing I'm into at the moment is training for a 10k! I used to run half marathons, so training again has been a trip. The 10k will take place in Las Vegas February 2022. I am excited to be running again!”What’s the furthest you’ve run?“The furthest I've run is 13.1 miles, which is a half marathon. Sounds crazy for non-runners but it really does fly by with hard work and dedication lol. The run I am most proud of would be my first half marathon ever in San Diego back in 2013. I remember it being challenging because it was so hilly, but I was also in great shape, so I wasn't dreading it or anything. I want to feel accomplished again!!”

Sports Betting

Cody Maniga (and others around the office) has been getting deep into the recently legalized sports betting in Arizona. Here’s what he had to say about his new hobby!“Currently into sports betting after it became legal a couple weeks ago. Companies like Draft Kings and Fan Duel ran promotions that gave new customers money to gamble with. After a funky 2020 in the NFL and NCAA it's a lot of fun to be able to watch prime time football with a full stadium and a little more incentive to root for my favorite teams”Biggest win so far (it’s only been a week)? “I had a boosted odds game on my first bet on Fan Duel it was a $5 wager on the 49ers to beat the Lions and I won $205 on it.”

Slow pace, methodical, meditative, and also I get to create an empire and crush my enemies which aligns with my real life goals.”How’s the current run?“In my current game, I am aiming for a crushing economic-style victory where I become so rich I can buy absolutely anything I want.“

LUX

Your humble author here will speak for everyone in the office when I say LUX is definitely a Helix House Cool Thing. Since moving our offices from Oldtown Scottsdale to our new digs up in the Kierland area LUX has been a constant go-to for us. Coffee, pastries, breakfast burritos, and lunch, we treat going to LUX like checking the fridge. We can’t help ourselves!And here’s another cool thing just for today! What day is it? Do You Remember?
