Helix House's Top Five TV Shows

Writers need to read, filmmakers need to watch movies, and social media managers need to spend 27 hours a day on twitter. Creatives tend to spend a lot of time pondering other works. Albums, films, art, or TV, there is no telling where that next germ of an idea will come from.Or maybe, that’s just us trying to convince ourselves that the endless media we consume in our lives is in some way valuable. Today, the media taking center-stage is television. After all, one of the most monumental TV shows of all time is quickly wrapping up as HBO’s Game of Thrones season 7 moves into its second-half. Lately, the office is abuzz with Thrones-Talk. Whatever the reason, here are some of our favorite television shows of all time here at Helix House!

Mike

Our illustrious leader weighed in quick, dropping nothing but sci-fi/fantasy classics. His top five: Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, Firefly, Battlestar Galactica, and Star Trek (Voyager or NextGeneration). You may be thinking ‘Well, now hey wait a second, Voyager or Next Generation? That makes six!’ You’d be right.

Marina

Marina, our office manager let us know she can’t watch anything too gross in her shows, so Walking Dead and the like are certainly nowhere to be found. Instead, her favorites include the peaceful (though at times tense) Planet Earth, Sherlock, Sex and the City, Lie to Me, and -strangely enough- Stranger Things.

Gabbi

When Gabbi isn’t writing copy, she has been known to binge a show or two. Her favorites range from modern masterpieces to absolute classics of the medium. HBO gets plenty of rep, as does Netflix for creating high-quality TV. Westworld, Game of Thrones, Star Trek: the Original Series, House of Cards, and Stranger Things take the top five spots.

Roman

Our Social Media Strategist refuses to nail down a top five.  His first list sat at Pushing Daisies, Buffy, Supernatural, Sense8, and How I Met Your Mother. Over the past 24 hours he has now dropped HIMYM for Ugly Betty. By the time we publish this I will no doubt have to edit it further. Regardless of the titles, its clear Roman prefers his TV full of laughs and otherworldly thrills.Last Minute Edit: I was right, Roman has now sent me his top five in an order. (1- Buffy, 2- Pushing Daisies, 3- Supernatural, 4- Ugly Betty, and 5- Sense8)

Indre

Creative Strategist Indre lists her top and it is almost pure comedy across the board, with a slight detour some supernatural chuckles. Her list: The Office (U.S.) ‘because it’s the best,’ as well as Archer, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Shameless (U.S.) and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. When justifying her Buffy love she added simply, “because vampires and (the) 90’s.” What more could you ask for I suppose.

Jon

Jon ‘Jonny Spurs’ Spurling, our Lead Marketing Strategist filled his top five with British favs and a tempering of Americana. Red Dwarf, Black Adder, Bottom represent his side of the pond while Friends and 24 do their best to represent the good ol’ U.S. of A. 24, Friends, and Black Adder, together? Who would have thought?

Nathan

The Lead Copywriter here at Helix House was definitive and unbending in his choices:“The correct list of top 5 shows of all time is:

  1. Mad Men
  2. Seinfeld
  3. No Reservations
  4. Game of Thrones
  5. 30 Rock

Let no one say Nathan is indecisive.

Lauren

One of several interns scurrying about the office, Lauren has joined in on our Thrones-talk, but that's not all she digs. In order, her top five are: the 121 episode-long Gossip Girl based off the series of novels by Cecily von Ziegesar, Criminal Minds (277 and counting!), Game of Thrones, This is Us, and The Real Housewives of Orange County, which has 191 episodes not counting spin offs! Basically, if you're on a deserted island with a DVD player and seasons of TV shows, choosing Lauren's list will net you enough discs to make a raft out of.

Cody

And now I, your humble narrator, must choose my top five television shows and boy is that daunting. We have truly entered a golden age of television and that makes any list feel like it is heavily affected by recency bias but the truth is these shows are just getting better and better.IN ORDER:

  1. Game of Thrones
  2. LOST
  3. Mad Men
  4. Girls
  5. Terrace House

This means…. That taken together the TOP FIVE Favorite Shows of Helix House are, in ORDERFor second place… it’s a four-way tie! With two nominations apiece, Buffy, Star Trek (all versions), Mad Men, and Netflix Original Stranger Things. Taking the number one spot with 4 nominations is the HBO smash hit Game of Thrones. We have a wide variety of interests and people working together so it isn’t so surprising that there is such a range of shows. From Japanese reality (Terrace House) to one of the longest-running shows ever (Doctor Who). Now that that’s out of the way, let’s get to talking about Jon and Dany…
