Meet Elaina - Copywriter, Hype Woman, Interior Design Obsessed
Where Are You From?
I was born in Phoenix, AZ and lived in Glendale until I was 12. Then from 12-18 I lived in Bouse, Arizona.
How Did You Get Started in Digital Marketing?
While working a sales job in 2017, I noticed a really funny ad on a billboard I could see from my office building. Although I was good at it, I was really unhappy with my sales job and I always dreamt about being paid to write instead. I was on a call with a client and I stared at the sign for a long time. I thought, “I could write that!,” and so I set out to do so.
I quit my job and started freelance copywriting without a plan whatsoever. That was 6 years ago. It was really tough but I taught myself everything I could and the rest is history. That billboard was a huge moment for me, as silly as it sounds.
What Else Have You Done For Work?
I’ve worked in the matchmaking industry, college admissions advisor, I was an executive assistant for a litigation firm for 3 years, I’ve been a telemarketer, a personal assistant, I’ve taught kids how to ride horses, I worked for catering companies in college, and did promotions in college as well. I was always curious and loved trying new things until I found my groove in copywriting.
Writers are often big readers, have a favorite book?
I love reading anything Cheryl Strayed touches, but particularly Wild. I can really connect with that time of her life and the fire of the phase she was in. I also enjoy revisiting The Alchemist from time to time. I actually love poetry and have almost every book Mary Oliver has ever written.
What Three Words Describe You?
Enthusiastic, Passionate, Curious
How Does That Influence How You Approach Work Here?
I am very enthusiastic about what I do, and I care to do my job very well. I am passionate about being the best that I can be in my work. I want our clients to succeed and I want our agency to thrive. I'm always curious about ways to improve my work and I love to learn and ask questions. I enjoy creative dialogue and I am a verbal thinker, meaning I get better ideas when I share my own with the team. I find that the more we all share our thought process, the better ability we have in creating amazing, stand-out work for our clients.
What is One Thing You Want Everyone to Know About Your Work?
That I don’t take it for granted. I really stumbled in my life to figure out what I wanted to do for work. I was a late bloomer for sure— or maybe I was right on time? I don’t know. But now that I’ve found my craft, I cherish it. I want to be the best at it. I absolutely love what I do and although writing websites might not seem special to others, my career is everything to me.
Who or What Inspires You?
Resilience. I am constantly in awe of women, their capacity to handle hard things and keep moving forward. I aspire to have it all — fulfilling career, a loving mariage, raise happy children, maintain and foster deep friendships/connections, travel, finally become an author. The people who have that kind of life work hard for it. And to me, that’s what living is. That’s a full life. Seeing others make it work lights a fire under my ass.
What Do You Do For Fun?
Hanging out with my husband— he makes my life a wonderful place. Schmoozing for 3 hours over dinner with friends, sipping some hard-to-find-wine, lost in conversation. Running trails with my girlfriends in the mountains where I live in North Phoenix. Losing my voice at my kids’ games, screaming from the bleachers, watching them win.
If you were a mythological creature, what would you be?
I would be a sindar elf from Lord of the Rings. Hands down.
What ONE thing do you want everyone to know about YOU?
I’m just getting started.
