For years, my childhood dreams were plagued by this scene. Allow me to describe it to you.The Wood AtticA dusty wooden attic with exposed wood beams. There are no windows, no exit; not even a hole to spy on the outside world. Hanging in the dead center, is a single lightbulb without a pull chain. A web hung lazily from the top, long forgotten by its maker.
You stand feet in front of the light, enjoying the ringing silence, and take in your surroundings. Despite only having a single light source, every corner was illuminated in a warm glow. The space feels welcoming, and even had a pleasant cedar smell, as if the wooden beams and flooring had only just been cut that morning. Then the light flickers. Nothing out of the ordinary – it’s an old attic after all. The light barely even goes off – it’s more like a blink than a flicker. But something is different. A shadow in the corner that wasn’t there before. The moment you make eye contact with the shadow, the light flickers again. The darkness lasts longer this time. A chill settles at the base of your spine before the warm glow pops on again and chases it away. The shadow hasn’t moved, but it now has a friend. They stare back at you, unmoving, without any eyes, without any definite shape. You hear the crackle of electricity and tense as darkness consumes the room once again. A full second goes by before the room is flooded by the yellow glow. It’s dimmer this time.Four shadows. The light flickers.Six shadows. They now look like people. The light goes off. Then back on.The shadows are standing. The light goes off once more. You hear nothing, not even the silence that rang around you. Then on again. They have faces, unseeing and unfeeling.Darkness.Light.Their arms reach out to you. They’re closer now.Black.You feel them around you, but you can’t see anything. Your fear yells at you to scream, to run, to do anything but stand and stare at the masses you can’t even see, but you can’t. You’re trapped in the darkness, unable to do anything except feel bone-chilling terror. The light buzzes to light, but you have to squint to see anything through the murky darkness. The shadows are much closer now. They’re surrounding you. Watching you. They lunge. The light goes out.

Absolutely terrifying! Hope you weren’t trying to get some sleep…
Next a ghost story from the so-kill media desk, Vianka Evil-la had a recent run-in with the paranormal, the tale she told chilled me to the very marrow of my bones! And I recount it here for you, with only minor embellishments I’m sure!

A few years ago, on a dark and...clear night.Vianka and EJ were in bed in the middle of the night. EJ lay asleep on the bed closest to the door while Vianka sat wide awake scrolling through YouTube. She clicked a video, let the first 20 seconds play and knew it wasn’t worth the time. ‘Nah, not this one.’ Back to the feed. The late night scroll continued. From the door, a creak, slow at first then viscous. Shake shake shake. The knob shook and turned as if being forced open.EJ bolted awake and the two of them stared at the door. They crept from bed, reaching out to the door knob. With a quick pull the door opened.Nothing. Nothing?“You heard that too right?”“Yes who was it, where are they?”They carefully frept from room to room. No one was there. Nothing was touched. They checked the security cameras and there, in the little window on their computer screen they watched their home – no one came or went.At least… not in this dimension.

My family has owned a farm in Iowa for about 150 years. It was originally owned by my Great-Grandfather Dinsdale’s family and he (Howard) and his wife (Iona) worked the farm during its most fruitful times. Before the farm came into their possession there was a fire that broke out in the original farmhouse killing one person who was unable to make it out, as the story goes. A new farmhouse, the current farmhouse still standing today, was built mere feet away from where the old one burned to the ground. As young children, my dad, his younger brother and their gaggle of cousins would stay with their grandparents during the summer season to help work the family farm. Being a working farm and all, there were many electric tools and machinery scattered about the different areas of the land. Every so often, some of these tools would turn on without even being plugged in or connected to some kind of powersource. My dad specifically recalls hearing a chainsaw his Grandfather was using to cut wood that was resting on a stump starting its motor and running. Both he and his grandfather were in the house at the time looking at the chainsaw from the kitchen window.Other times, water faucets would turn on on their own, things would be heard hitting the floor in the attic and shadows could be seen only for split seconds walking outside a window of the house. One of my dad’s cousins currently lives on the farm in the new farmhouse with his family. From the stories he and his kids have told, not much has changed on the Dinsdale Farm.
